SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 - FINAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REVIEW
Dear Mr. Stoddard:
By letter dated October 15, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Package Accession No. ML18291A842), as supplemented by letters dated January 29, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19042A137), April 2, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19095A666), June 10, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19168A028), October 14, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19294A044), October 31, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19310E716), November 19, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19329A287), and February 20, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20054B996), Virginia Electric and Power Company (Dominion) submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or staff) an application to renew the Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-32 and DPR-37 for the Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2, respectively (Surry). Dominion submitted the application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, for subsequent license renewal.
The NRC staff determined that the application was complete and acceptable for docketing on December 3, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18320A188), as corrected by letter dated December 18, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18351A050).
The NRC staff has reviewed the Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2, Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) and has developed the enclosed Safety Evaluation Report Related to the Subsequent License Renewal of Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2, hereinafter referred to as the Safety Evaluation Report (SER). This final SER reflects minor changes from the previously issued draft SER on December 27, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19353C656). This SER reflects the status of the NRC staffs safety review of the SLRA, as supplemented, through February 20, 2020. Issuance of the enclosed SER is an important milestone for both the applicant and the NRC staff.
The next milestone for this project is the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards Full Committee meeting scheduled for April 8, 2020.
