Subject: Combired Inspection 50-272/81-16 and 50-311/81-15
This refers to the special safeguards inspection conducted by Mr. R. Bailey
of this office on June 4-5, 8-9, 25-26 and July 2, 1981, at the Salem
Nuclear Generating Station, Unit Nos. I and 2, Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey,
of activities authorized by NRC License Nos. DPR-70 and DPR-75 and to the
discussions of our findings held by Mr. Bailey with members of your staff
at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the Office of Inspection
and Enforcement Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of
procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and
observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, no items of noncompliance were observed.
In accordance with 10 CFR 73.21 of the NRC's regulations, documentation of
security measures for the physical protection of special nuclear materials
and certain plant equipment vital to the safety of production or utilization
facilities are deemed to be Safeguards Information.
Each person who produces,
receives or acquires Safeguards Information is required to ensure that it
is protected against unauthorized disclosure. Therefore, except for the
report cover sheet, the enclosure to this letter will not be placed in the
Public Document Room and will be distributed pursuant to 10 CFR 73.21(c).
No reply to this letter is required; however, should you have any questions
concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.
