NRC Region-111 has received the enclosed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)letterdatedFebruary 22, 1991, and associated final exercise evaluations of the off site portion of. the Byron Nuclear _ Power Plant's emergency preparedness exercise conducted on December 6-7, 1989. Offsite participation included the States of Illinois and Wisconsin and Ogle County.
FEMA concluded that the offsite radiological emergency response piens and preparedness at the Byron Nuclear Pcwer Plant are adequate to provide i
reasonable assurance that appropriate measures can be taken to p.otect the health and safety of the public in tbe event of a radiological emergency a',
the site. As a result, the approval of offsite emrgency preparedness under FEMA Rule 44 CFR 350 will remain in effect.
You are requested to followup with offsite officials on the status of any outstanding items identified by FEMA.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Comission's regulations, a copy of this-letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
