Narrative Summary of Operatina Erneriences Limerick Unit 1 began the month of February at a nominal 100%
of rated thermal power.
On February 6,
reactor power was reduced to 90% to accommodate Main Turbine Control Valve testing.
On February 16, reactor power was reduced briefly to 75% to support a control rod pattern adjustment.
On i
February 18, reactor power was reduced to 73% to support isolation of the
'6B' feedwater heater for corrective I
maintenance on the bleeder trip valve.
On February 22, reactor power was reduced briefly to 90% due to high turbine backpressure.
On February 23, reactor power was reduced briefly to 90% to return the '6B' feedwater heater to service and to support a control rod pattern adjustment.
Limerick Unit 1 ended the month of February at a nominal 100% of rated i
thermal power.
Operational events that occurred during the month of February included:
On February 28, HV-050-1F005, RCIC Vacuum Tank Condensate Drain to Radwaste, was found closed with the handswitch I
in the open position.
Investigation revealed that the normally energized solenoid was deenergized.
The solenoid was found to have burned out.
HV-050-1F005 was then blocked open under Supervisory Permit.
On' March 1, HV-049-1F025, Drain Pot Inboard valve failed closed. A burned out solenoid on the valve actuator was found and t
RCIC was declared inoperable.
An air jumper was installed per TCA to maintain HV-049-1F025 open.
On March 2,
HV-409-1F026, RCIC Drain Pot Outboard valve, failed closed.
A burned out solenoid was again the cause.
It was determined that the solenoids had failed due to
'AC' solenoids being installed on the valves l
instead of the 'DC' solenoids.
These solenoids had been L
replaced to meet EQ program maintenance during the Unit 1 RCIC outage on February 19 through 22.
The solenoids have subsequently been replaced.
