p' REVIEW SCHEDULE FOR GENERIC MARK III h ELA Sil8 JECT:

DYNAMIC LOADS NIj o, The schedule for resolution of hydrodynamic LOCA loads for the Mark III structure, as given in your mem of July 9,1981, will sericusly impact the licensino schedule for Grand Gulf. The Grand Gulf SER and SSER input dates of August 14, 1981 and October 25, 1981, respectively, given in the memo are correct. However, Grand Gulf is an uncontested plant and the l

anolicant anticipates a license ~by December 26, 1981. Thus, with '3e schedule as given for resolution of this item, Grand Gulf will be ready for licensino and this item will still be an open issue.

Your schedule shows an August 4-5 meeting between GE and NRC to identify and clarify oroblem areas. We would strongly recomend that this meeting he utilized to resolve some of the outstandirg issues on this topic.

It would appear that this could be possible since questions and responses have already been oenerated and evaluated. Shortly after this meeting, we hone that you would be able to provide cuidance for Grand Gulf. We could then pursue a comitment from Grand Gulf in time to make this a closed issue in either the SER or SSER.

In summary, we find that yourEschedule for resolution of hydrodynamic LOCA loads for Mark III structures will seriously impact the Grand Gulf licensino schedule. We, therefore, strongly recomend that the LOCA load schedule be accelerated with whatever resources you can muster, as well as, use of some new and movel review procedures such as frequent working level meetings with the applicant and G.E.

We are available to help in any way we can to exoedite this review.
