Special Report of the Diesel Fire Pump Being Inoperable for More Than Seven Days on November 29, 1989, at 1429 hours0.0165 days <br />0.397 hours <br />0.00236 weeks <br />5.437345e-4 months <br />, the Diesel Fire Pump (DFP) failed while providing vater to support a cleaning activity unrelated to the Fire Protection System. The failure was in the right angle gear drive (Johnson Gear Company, Model HH350) which connects the diesel engine to the pump. The studs holding the horizontal ~ drive to its hub were found broken.
When the DFP was declared inoperable, the Station entered action "a" of Technical Specification 3.7.9.1.a.
This action requires that unless the DFP is restored to an operable status-within seven days, a Special Report must be submitted vithin the next 30 days.
Due to the extent of the damage and unavailability of parts, repairs were not completed within seven days.
Therefore, this Special Report is being-submitted pursuant to Technical Specification 13.7.9.1.a and 6.9.2.f.
l Under Maintenance Work Order (MV0) 1-89-2215-00, repairs were completed. -The j
broken studs were replaced with cap screws per the vendor's current recommendation. The Weekly Diesel Fire Pump Test, DB-FP-03001, was successfully completed, and the DFP was declared operable at 1712 hours0.0198 days <br />0.476 hours <br />0.00283 weeks <br />6.51416e-4 months <br /> on December 16, 1989.
The broken studs are being sent off site for analysis. The results vill be provided in an updated report.
