On September 17, 1980, you transmitted to Chairman J. F. Ahearne the Dam Safety Report prepared by the Chief'of the Federal Dam 3afety, FEMA. We do not anticipate at this time any particular difficulty in implementing the guidelines prior' to your target date of December 31, 1983. We will report to you, not later than December 31, 1981, the status of our progress .towards implementing the guidelines and the major recommendations noted in the Chief's report. In addition, our Dam Safety Officer will brief the Chief of Federal Dam Safety, FEMA, on our progress towards implementing the guidelines in January 1981, as you have requested. Sincerely,.
