APPuiDlx E UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Availability of Regulatory Guides The Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series was developed to describe and make available to the public methods acceptable to the NRC staff of implementing specific parts of the Commission's regulations and, in some cases, to delineate techniques used by the staff in evaluating specific problems or postulated accidents and to provide guidance to applicants concerning certain

,s of the information needed by the staff in its review of applications for permits and licenses.

Regulatory guides are made available to the public at two stages in their development.

First, before a regulatory position has been established, they are issued as draf t guides to interested persons at no cost. Comments are solicited on these draft guides during a two-month period following their issuance. Anyone who provides the NRC with comments on a draft guide during the comment period will be furnished a summary of all the comments received on that draft guide, their resolution, and a copy of the version of the guide that is being submitted to cognizant NRC Office Directors for final review and, if appropriate. to the Regulatory Requirements Review Committee and the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.

Requests for specific draft guides or for placement on an automatic distribution list for single copies of future.

draf t guides should be made in writing to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555, Attention: Director, Division of Technical Information and Document Control.

Second. when a regulatory position has becn established following the resolution" of comments, the guides may be purchased on a subscription or individual copy basis through the Superintendent of Documents. U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO)..The subscription service for regulatory guides will ensure the receipt of all guides issued during the remainder of the current fiscal year (i.e., through September 30,1980) in the divisions ordered. All new subscribers who were not-on the NRC's free distribution list as of October 1,1979, will be furnished at no additional cost the latest revision of all active guides in the divisions to which they subscribe.
