Alpha-Omega Services, Inc. (AOS) would like to request an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 9316. We are requesting approval for three changes.

1.

We would like to make some changes related to the Shipping Cage fastening screws.

We have experienced a problem with the Type 410 stainless steel screws that secure the Shipping Cage to the Transport Pallet on the AOS-100A. Galling has been identified on some screws causing the screws to seize. This has resulted in some Keenserts backing out of the Shipping Cradle during disassembly (refer to AOS Drawing 105E9711, item 13).

To reduce the occurrence of galling, we would like to reduce the torque for these screws from 62.5 ft-lb to 37 ft-lb. This torque is appropriate for 1/2"-13 UNC lubricated screws.

Also, we would like to add an optional material, Nitronic 60 per ASME SA-193, ASTM A193 Grade B8S (UNS S21800) for the Shipping Cage screws (105E9711 item 10).

We have updated section 2.5.3.1.4 of the SAR to analyze the new screw material. At the same time, we are correcting an error in the geometry of the Shipping Cage shown in this section of the SAR. Previously, the Shipping Cage was shown sitting on top of the Transport Pallet with the screws passing vertically through flanges on four sides of the Shipping Cage. The actual configuration of the AOS-100A has vertical flanges that straddle the Shipping Cage and the screws pass horizontally through

Also associated with his change, we would like to add an optional shipping cage closure - to be used either for a repair if we are unable to re-install a Keensert in the field according to the manufacturers instructions; or for replacement. The optional shipping cage closure uses a flanged nut and modified bolt to replace the Keenserts.

These changes are shown on the attached drawing, 105E9711 Revision K; and the drawing revision is referenced in Chapter 1 of the SAR (revision to Section 1.3.1 and Table 5).

We are requesting the addition of new isotopes to the authorized contents.

We have revised the Shielding Analysis in Chapter 5 (addition of Appendices 5.5.5, 5.5.6 and Appendix 5.5.7); and revised Package Operations in Chapter 7 (addition of Appendix 7.5); of the SAR to consider beta emitting isotopes and low energy gamma emitting isotopes.

We are adding an analysis of the Normal Conditions of Transport (NCT) drop test of the AOS-100A with the Shipping Cage installed.

The analysis is included in Appendix 2.12.16 and shows that the Shipping Cage will remain intact following the NCT drop test.

With the addition of this analysis to the SAR, we request that Condition 15 be removed from the Certificate of Compliance.

Attached for your review are the revised chapters of SAR FM9054, revision H-5.
