PALISADES PLANT - SITE VISIT TO REVIEW DISPOSITION OF UNRESOLVED FIRE PROTECTION ITEMS (TAC NO. M94148)
Dear Mr. Smedley:
On November 3, 1995, you provided a letter documenting the method and schedule for the disposition of two unresolved items.
The items involved the adequacy of the west wall of the turbine lube oil room to provide a 3-hour separation for the fire area boundary from safety-related equipment located in the turbine building and the adequacy of the component cooling pump room wall to provide separation for a fire area boundary from the turbine building. During a telephone conversation on November 30, 1995, we informed you that NRR and Region III inspectors will be at the Palisades site the week of February 12, 1996, to continue the review of these issues.
In preparation for the staff's visit and to ensure an efficient use of both NRC staff and licensee resources, we request that you complete and submit the reviews and evaluations for Issues 1 and 2 as described in the November 3 letter by February 5, 1996.
In addition, any portions of your revised safe shutdown analysis which affect the unresolved items should be available for the staff's review during the site visit. If you have any questions regarding this request or schedule, please contact me at (301) 415-3024.
This requirement affects nine or fewer respondents and, therefore, is not subject to the Office.of Management and Budget review under P.L.96-511.
