BROMNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) GENERIC LETTER 87-02 AND THE SCHEDULE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF SEISMIC QUALIFICATIONUTILITY GROUP (SQUG)
GENERIC IMPLEMENTATION PROCEDURES This letter provides TVA's response to your letter from T. E. Murley to N. P. Smith, Chairman Seismic Qualification UtilityGroup (SQUG), dated April 28, 1987.
Your letter requested all licensees participating in the USI A-46 SQUG implementation program provide the schedule for plant specific implementation no later than December 1, 1987.
The TVA Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN) is a participant in SQUG.
As stated in SQUG's October 9, 1987 response to your April 28, 1987 letter, we expect an initial generic implementation procedure for verification of the seismic adequacy of nuclear plant equipment to be available by the second quarter of 1988.
A complete generic implementing procedure addressing the detailed requirements of Generic Letter 87-02 and the staff's comments regarding the seismic verification of cable trays and conduit, heat exchangers, tanks and relays is not expected to be available until the end of 1988.
Consistent with the SQUG position described in their October 9, 1987 letter, TVA will provide a schedule for implementing the final resolution of USI A-46 within sixty days following the receipt of the NRC's Safety Evaluation Report on the final generic implementing procedure.
