to Generic Letter 94-03, "Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking of Core Shrouds in Boiling Water Reactors" Gentlemen:
Generic Letter 94-03 requested addresses to:
(1) inspect core shrouds in their Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants no later than the next scheduled refueling outage, and perform an appropriate evaluation and/or repair based on the results of the inspection; and (2) perform a safety analysis supporting continued operation of the facility until inspections are conducted.
The purpose of this letter is to provide Niagara Mohawk's safety assessment and plans for implementing the requested licensee actions contained in Generic Letter 94-03 for Nine Mile Point Unit 1.
Based on the BWR Owners'roup (BWROG) Shroud Cracking Generic Assessment and the results of the safety assessment for Nine Mile Point Unit 1 enclosed as Attachment A, Niagara Mohawk has determined that continued operation of Nine Mile Point Unit 1 is justified until the inspection of the core shroud scheduled for the February 1995 refueling outage.
The core shroud inspection plan willbe based on the recommendations of the BWR Vessel and Internals Project (BWRVIP),
A history of core shroud inspections for Nine Mile Point Unit 1 is included as Attachment B.
Attachment C includes drawings of the core shroud configuration for Nine MilePoint Unit 1 showing details of the core shroud geometry.
Niagara Mohawk willprovide the inspection plan for the core shroud no later than three months prior to performing the inspection as requested in the generic letter.
Plans for evaluation and/or repair of the core shroud based on the inspection results willalso be provided at that time. In addition, the results of the inspection willbe submitted within

Niagara Mohawk willcontinue to work closely with the BWROG and BWRVIP on coordination of inspections, evaluations and repair options for all BWR internals susceptible to IGSCC.
