SUMMARY

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL FOR RAI SET 52 PERTAINING TO THE GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION March 19, 2015 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Entergy Operations, Inc., (Entergy or the applicant) held a telephone conference call on March 19, 2015, to discuss Request for Additional Information (RAI) Set 52, pertaining to the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS), license renewal application (LRA). The telephone conference call was useful in discussing the issues surrounding the RAIs.

Discussion The staff and the applicant discussed clarifications to three Fire Water System (FWS) RAIs (3.0.3-1-FWS-1a, -FWS-2a, and -FWS-8) and to 3.0.3-2b. The applicant sought several phrasing clarifications which were discussed, and the staff agreed to incorporate those that clarified the RAIs without changing the intents of the questions. The more noteworthy points adopted were as follows:

The Issue in -FWS-2a was shortened to An alternative to adhesion testing was not proposed.

The wording of the Request for -FWS-8 was modified to request additional acceptance criteria (as opposed to stating acceptance criteria).

RAI 3.0.3-2b was shortened to delete the issue discussion on the Fire Water System AMP XI.M27 and to delete the Request (d) portions regarding tests on the FWS tank bottoms. Since the FWS tank bottoms at GGNS are not flat, request (d) would not apply to GGNS.

The applicant also indicated it understood the staffs concerns and would provide responses to them. Finally, the staff and the applicant agreed that a response to RAI Set 52 within 45 days from the date of issuance was an acceptable timeframe.
