By letter dated January 7, 2013 (Reference 1), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to renew the operating license for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. The request would extend the license for an additional 20 years beyond the current expiration date.

By letter dated July 23, 2013 (Reference 2), TVA replied to an NRC request for additional information which included an Environmental Reference List of documents that were placed on the Certrec site to facilitate NRC staff review. In an email to TVA on September 6, 2013, Mr. David Drucker, the NRC Environmental Project Manager, requested that specific sensitive archaeological documents be docketed. The enclosure of this letter contains a Compact Disc (CD) with the requested documents.

UPON SEPARATION OF THE CD, THIS LETTER IS DECONTROLLED.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 September 20, 2013 Under the National Historic Preservation Act and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act, federal agencies are required to withhold from public disclosure information regarding the nature and location of historic resources if such disclosure creates a risk of harm to those resources.

Disclosure of the information in this. letter relating to the nature and location of archaeological sites could result in harm to these historic resources due to vandalism and looting. For the same reason, the locations where protected or endangered species and plants are found shall be withheld from public disclosure. Accordingly, TVA requests that the CD in the enclosure of this letter be withheld from publicly disclosure.

There are no new regulatory commitments contained in this submittal.

Consistent with the standards set forth in 10 CFR 50.92(c), TVA has determined that the additional information, as provided in this letter, does not affect the no significant hazards considerations associated with the proposed application previously provided in Reference 1.
