HOT AND COLD PRESENTATION AT NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION, REGION I, WINTER 2010 SEMINAR
Dear Mr. Taylor:
Thank you so much for allowing John Deininger to present the Hot and Cold Traveling Science show at our Winter 2010 Seminar on December 7. Our theme this year was Many Roads, One Destination, and the Hot and Cold show was a good reminder of the early steps many of us took towards our science career paths. His presentation was very well received, and Mr. Deininger did a good job encouraging our staff to remember their inner child, while acknowledging that he was working with an adult audience. It was interesting to hear Mr. Deininger comment about the importance of observing and asking questions, both of which are stressed during the training of new inspectors in our Agency. And, of course, his presentation covered the fundamental activities that occur at nuclear reactors: making things hot, and cooling things down! It is also good to know that the Franklin Institute continues to reach out to interest the public in science, and hopefully encourages students to pursue science careers who will become our future employees.
Because most of your evaluation form is not applicable to the unusual situation of our seminar, here is a summary of the relevant questions. Approximately 150 adults attended the Hot and Cold show, of which most were engineers and physicists, with the remainder being administrative staff. Our in-house survey indicates that most people were very satisfied or satisfied with the presentation. Most people liked the demonstrations of the science concepts, and it was clear that Mr. Deininger was teaching science, not just trying to entertain. He answered a number of questions from the staff at the end of his show. We very much appreciated his efforts.
