By letter dated June 25, 2010 (Reference 1), Exelon Generation Company, LLC, (Exelon) submitted a License Amendment Request (LAR) for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS), Units 2 and 3, requesting changes to the Technical Specifications (TS) to address non-conservative TS Surveillance Requirements (SR) associated with the amount of nitrogen available in the liquid nitrogen storage tank.
By letter dated July 30, 2010 (Reference 2), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provided the results of the acceptance review for the proposed LAR. The NRC concluded that additional information is necessary to enable the NRC to make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed amendment request in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of the public health and safety and the environment.
Specifically, the NRC requests that Exelon provide the calculations that determined the tank level versus volume correlation for 16 inches of water column to 50,000 standard cubic feet (scf) and 22 inches of water column to 124,000 scf as discussed in the proposed LAR. The NRC requested that Exelon provide the supplemental information by August 18, 2010.
