VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT (SPR) 2008-003 South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) is submitting this report pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 6.9.2. Two adjacent smoke detectors, IXA04946K and IXA04947M, were inoperable in excess of 14 days.

The adjacent smoke detector, IXA04947M, was declared inoperable on May 28, 2008 due to being excessively dirty. Roving fire watches were implemented as per FPP-020.

IXA04947M was repaired and returned to operable status on July 9, 2008.
