SUBJECT:

BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 - CORRECTION LETTER RE: THE RECIRCULATION SPRAY SYSTEM PUMP START SIGNAL ISSUED AMENDMENT (TAC NOS. MD4290 AND MD4291)

Dear Mr. Sena:

On October 5, 2007, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Amendment No. 280 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-66 for Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 (BVPS-1).

On March 11, 200, the NRC issued Amendment No. 164 to Facility Operating License No. NPF-73 for Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 2 (BVPS-2). The amendments addressed Generic Safety Issue 191, Assessment of Debris Accumulation on PWR [Pressurized-Water Reactor]

Sump Performance, by implementing technical specification changes that reflect the use of a new recirculation spray system pump start signal due to a modification to the containment sump screens, and replaced the use of the LOCTIC code with the Modular Accident Analysis Program-Design Basis Accident (MAAP-DBA) code to calculate containment pressure, temperature, and condensation rates for input to the SWNAUA code, which ultimately changes the aerosol removal coefficients used in dose consequence analysis.

Per your request, the NRC staff has agreed to issue corrected safety evaluations (SEs) to address certain administrative errors, as well as, insert applicable information for BVPS-2 from your supplemental response to Generic Letter 2004-02, by letter dated February 29, 2008. The enclosed corrected SEs do not influence or change the NRC staffs previous position concluded in the SEs.

If there are any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please contact me at 301-415-1016.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Nadiyah S. Morgan, Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch I-1 Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos. 50-334 and 50-412
