Dear Mr. Dyer:
The purpose of this letter is to0provide you with. an overview of Indiana Michigan Power Company's (I&M's) planned actions and sclhedule'to address the concerns identified in Generic Letter 2004-.02 at Donald C. Cook Nuclear" Plant (CNP). °These Plalned actions and schedule were discussed in. a public *meeting, with members of your staff on May 8, 2007, and are described. in docketed*
correspondence. The plannedactions and schedule are summarized below.
" The existing.containmenti recirculation sump screens and trash racks are being replaced with a pocket-type strainer that will ificrease the-total'surface "area from approximately' 85 square feet (ft2) to approximately 900ft. - Other modifications, including installation of new recirculation sump water level instruments,
.installation of debris interception features, and removal f:Significant quantities of calcium silicate insulatibn were~c'mpletedin Unit1 during the Fall 2006 refueling outage. Similar modifications will be completedon'Unirt 2 during the Fall 2007 refueling outage.
- Proposed Technical Specification.chýages associated with the above :described plant modifications will be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the Summer of 2007."'.

" Analysis and testing activities necessary to support the mechanistic evaluation required by Generic Letter 2004-02 are being monitored by senior CNP engineering personnel.
These analysis and testing activities will be completed in the Fall of 2007.
" CNP personnel are engaged with industry efforts to resolve chemical effects and downstream component impacts. Appropriate changes to the CNP mechanistic evaluation will be made as needed to address the results of the industry efforts.
- I&M will submit a finalresponse to Generic Letter 2004-02 by December 31, 2007.
I&M believes these actions demonstrate its commitment to the health and safety of the public and its responsiveness to identified, safety concerns.
