- 1. Nonradioactive wastes from OCGS consist of hazardous (chemical) waste, solid waste, and sanitary waste. A smaller waste stream also includes medical waste.
- 2. OCGS generates a variety of wastes that are classified as hazardous under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Such wastes include paint-related materials, spent solvents used for cleaning and degreasing, and universal wastes such as batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, etc. OCGS is classified by the state of New Jersey as a small quantity generator of hazardous waste under EPA Permit No. NJD980649172, and employs a commercial contractor to dispose its hazardous wastes offsite.
- 3. Approximately 150 tons (301 thousand lbs) of general office trash and recyclables were generated in 2005, including food and grease, used oil, corrugated cardboard, office paper, copper, brass, steel, and aluminum. OCGS employs five separate contractors to manage the disposal and/or recycling of the above referenced wastes.
- 4. OCGS is a Category 1 medical waste generator in the state of NJ, generating less than 50 pounds of medical waste per year for minor or emergency treatment on site during routine plant operation, and uses a NJ licensed medical waste contractor to dispose of such wastes.
