Jan Strasma Eliot Brenner; Elizabeth Hayden; Raeann Shane Thu, Dec 1, 2005 12:40 PM Tritium contamination at Braidwood Attached is a draft preliminary notification which Region 111 plans to issue this afternoon (Thursday) on tritium contamination of groundwater at Braidwood. The licensee, Exelon, has collected well water samples at three nearby homes and a small offsite pond and expects to have the results late today. It is also drilling monitoring well on vacant land adjoining the site and expects to have the results sometime tomorrow.
The licensee is planning to issue a news release Friday morning (central time). The PN will become publiclyavailable in ADAMS Friday morning and will be posted on the NRC web site later in the day. We plan to update the PN when sample results are available.
Raeann, you might want to use the PN (final, when issued) to. notify any interested Illinois Congressional offices. I suggest first thing Friday will get to the offices before the licensee issues its news release late morning.
