Palo Verde 1,2 and 3 Loss of Offsite Power / Unit 2 A EDG failure to supply power FYI -just in case anyone hasn't heard of these events yet.
Attached Is the PN PNO-IV-04-012 on Palo Verde's - Complete Loss of Offslte Power (for all three units). An AIT is being formed for follow-up response to this event. The cause of the loss of off-site power is not completely understood at this time.
The Alert was declared yesterday (June 14, 2004 7:54 MST, and the Unusual Events for all three units were terminated at 12:07 p.m MST). The Alert was based on Unit 2 train A EDG starting but it did not indicate volts or amps and was manually shutdown after the loss of offsite power to Unit 2. Alert was declared due to loss of AC power to essential buses reduced to a single power source (B EDG) for greater than 15 minutes such that any additional single failure would result in a station blackout condition.
Note: see related events Event Notification 40814, 40815, 40816; and 40818 (San Onofre grid frequency dip to about 59.7 then recovered three minutes later). Links to the ENs are below:
