- Beth, In line with our conversation earlier today, I just wanted to give you a heads-up that the Burlington (Vt.)
Free Press called a short while ago regarding the Vermont Yankee situation. That paper, a 25,000-circulation daily based in the state capital, is playing catchup on the story. The reporter started out by asking multiple questions about our Senior Resident Inspector's comments in the Rutland (Vt.) Herald today. He particularly wanted to know if our Inspector had previously "written up" Entergy about its efforts to inventory in the spent fuel pool. I downplayed that and said the inspector was merely trying to provide some background on what has transpired at the plant. I talked about all the efforts under way to locate the missing pieces and said the NRC expects VY to be aggressive in its efforts to locate the segments. He also asked about the uprate review, steam dryer cracking, the independent safety assessment issue, and whether the missing fuel pieces would impact the ability of VY to win approval for the power uprate. He didn't state when the story will run but I suspect it may be tomorrow.
