SUMMARY
OF DECEMBER 2, 2004, MANAGEMENT MEETING WITH PSEG On December 2, 2004, at 7:00 p.m., a management meeting was conducted between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Public Service Enterprise Group Nuclear, LLC (PSEG) at the Bridgeview Inn in New Castle, DE. PSEG presented and discussed its plans to improve the work environment at Salem and Hope Creek.
The meeting was opened by Randy Blough, Director, Division of Reactor Projects, who introduced the staff and initiated the NRC presentation. The Regional Administrator also participated in the meeting. The NRC presented a brief summary of the conclusions from the work environment review conducted at Salem and Hope Creek. At the completion of the NRCs presentation, PSEG began their presentation on the status of their efforts to improve performance in the following areas:
Safety conscious work environment; Problem identification and resolution; Procedure adherence and other elements of human performance; Quality of engineering products particularly as they relate to evaluation of degraded equipment and associated operational decision making; and Role and function of quality assurance.
During the meeting the NRC questioned PSEG on their presentation. Approximately 85 people attended the meeting.
At the end of the meeting between the NRC and PSEG, public attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. The comments and questions pertained to a variety of topics, including the work environment, the performance metrics discussed during the meeting, the Hope Creek recirculation pump, and the effectiveness of the quality assurance (QA) organization.
