SUBJECT:
CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 (CALVERT CLIFFS 1 AND CALVERT CLIFFS 2) - REVIEW OF REVISION 32 TO THE UPDATED FINAL SAFETY ANALYSIS REPORT (UFSAR) (TAC NOS. MB9507 AND MB9508)
This memorandum documents the review of Revision 32 to the UFSAR for Calvert Cliffs 1 and 2, dated December 19, 2002. Revision 32 includes changes to the facility as of July 2002. This revision was reviewed in accordance with the guidance in the Division of Licensing Project Management Handbook.
A spot-check review was performed of the revised UFSAR. No errors were identified.
By letters dated January 3, 2003, and February 26, 2003, Constellation Energy Group submitted their biennial 10 CFR 50.59 report covering January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2002.
The report was reviewed for possible impacts to the UFSAR revision. One discrepancy, as discussed below, was noted in this review.
10 CFR 50.59 Report SE00475" discussed an increase in the lithium limit for the RCS. The report stated, in separate locations, that the increase was to either 5.0 ppm or 5.25 ppm.
Whereas the value listed in the revised UFSAR was 5.25 ppm. After discussing this issue with the licensee it was determined that the 10 CFR 50.59 report was using the Allowable Value and Analytical Limit interchangeably. Therefore the appropriate value of 5.25ppm is correctly stated in the revised UFSAR.
