OFF DUTY SECURITY OFFICER INFORMATIONAL PICKET AT DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT Discussion:
Starting October 14, 2003, off duty Pacific Gas and Electric security officers began holding informational pickets at the Avila Beach entrance to the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Pacific Gas and Electric management have been in contract negotiations with the security officers' union, Service Employees International. The informational pickets have not interfered with access to the site, which is approximately 7 miles (by coastal road) from the Avila Beach gated entrance. There has been local media interest.
The current contract between Pacific Gas and Electric and the union expires in 2008. The licensee and the union are negotiating a wage component of the contract.
