Pietrangelo, NEI In August 2001, the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) submitted WCAP 15666, Rev. 0, "Extension of Reactor Coolant Pump Motor Flywheel Examination," for approval (Ref. 1). On December 3, 2001, the NEI Technical Specification Task Force submitted TSTF-421, Rev. 0, which provided proposed changes to Specification 5.5.7, "Reactor Coolant Pump Flywheel Inspection Program," ofNUREG-143 1, Revision 2.
In a-January 30, 2003 meeting between the NRC and the NEI-Technical Specification Task Force, the NRC indicated that the review of TSTF-421 was suspended based on Reference 3. The WOG requests that the NRC complete the review of TSTF-421 (TAC No. MB 3544) on a schedule consistent with the completion of the NRC review of Reference 1 (TAC No. MB 2819) so that when WCAP-15666 is approved, licensee's can reference TSTF-421 in conjunction with WCAP-15666 to extend the interval for the RCP motor flywheel examination from 10 years to 20 years. Consistent with the practices identified in Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Office Instruction LIC-500, "Processing Request for Reviews of Topical Reports," the WOG requests that the NRC provide an estimate of the review hours and the target date for completion of the Safety Evaluation for this TSTF.
