W@LF CREEK NUCLEAR OPERATING CORPORATION Terry J. Garrett Vice President Engineering March 8, 2010 ET 10-0008 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Implementation of BEACON Power Distribution Monitoring System Gentlemen:

The Reference provided Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation's (WCNOC) application to revise the Wolf Creek Generating Station Technical Specifications (TS) for use of the BEACON Power Distribution Monitoring System described in WCAP-12472-P-A, "BEACON Core Monitoring and Operations Support System," to perform power distribution surveillances. The Reference requested Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval by September 30,2010 with implementation within 90 days of NRC approval.

In discussions with the NRC Project Manager, it is expected that the license amendment for the referenced application will occur much sooner than the requested September 30, 2010.

WCNOC requests that the NRC specify an implementation date of no later than December 29, 2010. WCNOC had expected the approval to take one year and had established the necessary scheduling of resources for software and procedural implementation to occur consistent with issuance of an amendment in September 2010.

This submittal revises the implementation timeframe provided in the Reference, does not expand the scope of the application as originally noticed,. and does not impact the conclusions of the NRC staff's original proposed no significant hazards consideration determination as published in the Federal Register (75 FR 4120). In accordance with 10 CFR 50.91, a copy of this submittal is being provided to the designated Kansas State official.
