Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO)"'is in th'e'process"of decommissioning the facility and has constructed an on-site Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI). Records associated with the 10 CFR Part 50 licensed operation and the existing and future records associated with the ISFSI may be preserved using an optical disk storage system.

Generic-Letter.-88-18-refers to the "storage of.an optical-disk in the-document imaging system" for on-line retrieval. CYAPCO believes this recommendation is reflective of the hardware designs available in 1988 which generally used mainframe computer installations with dedicated large disk storage hardware.

Present optical disk storage technology most often uses desktop computers or servers for readout of removable computer disks which are not stored "in the document imaging system."

"Disk storage will be as recommended by the manufacturer,'but information will 'remain readily retrievable for use by the plant and ISFSI staff.

If in the future, records storage is transferred to a newer document imaging system, CYAPCO will follow the guidelines of Generic Letter 88-18 regarding transfer and verification of records so copied.
