Dear Sirs:
In its Memorandum and Order (CLI-80-28) dated June 30, 1980, the Commission requested (on page 31) that the parties in the above-captioned matter provida certain infomation to the Commission and to the Department of Justice.
In order for the NRC Staff, as a party, to meet its obligation to the Commission in this regard, we hereby request that you please provide infomation to us in response to the following questions. The Staff requests that the infor-mation be furnished to us under oath or affimation no later than ten (10) days from the date of this letter to permit the Staf to make its timely response to the obligations set forth in the Commission's Order.
Of course, this request from the Staff for information does not, in any way, relieve you from submitting this or other infomation directly to the Commission in compliance with the Memorandum and Order of June 30th.

Since January 1979, has Santee Cooper (South Carolina Public Service
^"thority) discussed joint ownership of (or other means of access to) generatio'1 and transmission facilities with Central Electric Power Cooperative (Central)? If so, provide the dates of such discussions, i.he results of those discussions, and future plans to continue and conclude such discussions.

What is the status of discussions with Central for access to the Virgil C.
Summer Nuclear Station, Unit 1 facility?
If discussions are continuing, please provide infomation as to which personnel are involved, as to whether unit power or unit ownership is being discussed, and as to whether associated coordination service provisions are being offered by South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCEG) or Santee Cooper.

Has Santee Cooper recently discussed the possibility of merger with Central? If so, what was the na!cre of these discussions?
So that the NRC Staff may fully evaluate your responses to the above ques-tions, please provide any other information as to changes in Santee Cooper's business (including contractual) or competitive relationship with Central and SCEG since December of 1978, and as to any changes in Santee Cooper's 1980-1990 projections for annual peak loads, generation and transmission plans, and other power supply sources.
Finally, a copy of your latest annual report would be helpful to us.
