E ARKANSAS POWER & LIGHT COMPANY POST OFFICE BOX 551 LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS 72203 (501) 371-4000 February 8, 1985 l

2CAN028503 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN: Mr. James R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

SUBJECT:

Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368 License No. NPF-6 Reactor Vessel Surveillance Capsule Summary Report Gentlemen:

As stated in our letter of October 15, 1982 (2CAN198206), AP&L is participating in an EPRI program supported by the Universities of Arkansas and Missouri-Rolla.

The purpose of this program is to substantially reduce the calculational uncertainties in determining vessel fluence.

This program involves analyzing the neutron radiation outside the ANO-2 reactor vessel and from this data calculating vessel fluence.

As a result of AP&L's participation in this. program, the first ANO-2 surveillance capsule was withdrawn at the end of 1.69 effective full power years (EFPY) instead of at the originally scheduled 5.0 EFPY.

The NRC staff had been appraised of and agreed with this change.

At this time the analysis of the capsule has been completed and a summary report prepared.

Therefore, as required by 10CFR50 Appendix H, AP&L is submitting the attached summary report.

This report shows the current pressure temperature limits to be conservative, therefore no Technical Specification changes are submitted.

Very truly yours,

. Ted Enos Manager, Licensing JTE:MCS:ds Attachment 0g 0
