J No. 50-206 NOFRE - UdIT 1

Dear Sir:

This letter describes a reportable occurrence involving leakage of diesel generator lubricating oil.

Submittal is in accordance with the reporting requirements of Section 6.9.2.b of Appendix A to Provisional Operating License DPR-13.

On June 30, 1981, during the monthly diesel generator operability test, the No. 2 diesel generator tripped.

Local operator inspection revealed a low oil level in the diesel engine lube ' oil storage tank. As a result, the No. 2 diesel was declared inoperable.

In accordance with Technical Specification requirementr, the No.1 diesel generator and at least two offsite transmission lines were verified cperable within one hour and every eight hours thereaf ter until the diesel was returned to service.

Subsequent investigation into the cause of the low oil level revealed lube oil draining from the tank to a floor drain through a piece of tygon tubing attached to a valved drain line. The drain valve was not fully closed, apparently due to personnel error, allowing the oil to leak from the tank. The tygon tubing was being used for local lube oil tank level indi cation.

Lube oil was added to the tank to replace that which was lost. The tygon tubing was removed and the valved drain.line capped to p.-event recurrence of this event.
