NRC ANNOUNCES OPPORTUNITY FOR HEARING ON APPLICATION TO RENEW OPERATING LICENSE FOR DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The Nuclear Regulatory Commi ssion has announced the opportunity to request a hearing on an application to renew the operating license for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station.
The Davis-Besse plant is a pressurized-water reactor located 21 mile s southeast of Toledo, Ohio. The licensee, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co., submitted the renewal application Aug. 30, and its current operating licen se expires on April 22, 2017.
The NRC staff has determined that the application contains sufficient information for the agency to formally "docket," or file, the applic ation and begin its technical review. Docketing the application does not preclude requesting additional information as the review proceeds; nor does it indicate whether the Commission will grant the application.
The deadline for requesting a hearing is 60 days following publication of a notice in the Federal Register , expected shortly. By that date, petitions must be f iled by anyone whose interest may be affected by the license renewal and who wishes to participate as a party in the proceeding.
The notice includes detailed instructions for requesting a hear ing through the NRC's E-filing system's electronic submittal page at http://www.nrc.gov/site-help/e-submittals.html.
