Tuesday, July 15, 2014 Location: Byron Station Training Building, Byron, IL Type of Meeting: Category 3 Purpose of Meeting:

Provide opportunities to discuss NRC activities, nuclear power issues, and Byron Station performance for the 2013 calendar year with the public.

General Details:

The NRC conducted an open house beginning at 6:00 p.m. central daylight time (CDT) where members of the public met informally with NRC staff to discuss Byron Station's performance and NRC oversight. The meeting was scheduled from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. CDT and ended about 8:00 p.m.

Four NRC staff members were present, including the Branch Chief, Regional Public Affairs Officer, and both Resident Inspectors. No facilitator was needed.

NRC staff members greeted attendees as they arrived and offered a description of the purpose of the meeting and discussion of Byron's 2013 performance. Byron operated safely in 2013, with no significant inspection findings or negative performance indicators. Copies of the NRC's 2013 assessment letter were available.

Contact information for the Byron Resident Inspectors and meeting feedback forms were also provided.

Approximately 24 people participated in the meeting. Approximately five participants asked questions or provided comments. In addition to members of the public, meeting participants included members of the staff of the U.S. Senate, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, public advocacy groups, and the licensee.

The flexible structure encouraged participants to discuss topics of interest to them with different NRC staff members spread around the room. These discussions included how the NRC assessed Byron St ation's 2013 performance and the NRC's oversight of the facility.
