ISSUANCE OF RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSES FOR THE GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1 (CAC NO. ME7493)
Dear Mr. Mulligan:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) has issued Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-29 for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS). The NRC issued the renewed facility operating license based on its review of your application dated October 28, 2011, as supplemented by letters submitted to the NRC through October 3, 2016. The technical specifications for GGNS, were not amended as a result of the NRC's review.
Facility Operating License No. NPF-29 expires at midnight on November 1, 2024. Issuance of Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-29 extends the original expiration for an additional 20 years, bringing it to midnight on November 1, 2044.
The technical basis for issuing the renewed operating license for GGNS is set forth in "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1,"
issued in October 2016 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML16288A185). The results of the environmental review related to the issuance of the renewed licenses are given in NUREG 1437, Supplement 50, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuc lear Plants Regarding Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1," dated November 2014 (ADAMS Accession No. ML14328A171), and the record of decision (ADAMS Accession No. ML16243A024).
Enclosure 1 is the Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-29 with Attachments 1 and 2. Enclosure 1 also includes Appendix A, "Technical Specifications"; Appendix B, "Environmental Protection Plan"; and Appendix C, "Antitrust Conditions."
