2.0CONCLUSION
Theconclusion ofthisevaluation isthatthelimitsofminimumcriticalpowerratio(MCPR),peakvesselandmainsteamline pressures, andpeakfuelcladdingtemperature fortheexpectedoperational occurrence categoryoftheidentified eventswouldnotbeexceededasaresultofacommonsensorlinefailure.Althoughtransient categoryeventshavebeenpostulated asaresultofthisstudy,theneteffectshavebeendetermined tobelessseverethanandboundedbytheeventsinChapter15.3.0ANAIYSISMETHODOLOGY Inconjuction withtheNMP-2ControlSystemsCommonPowerSourceFailureAnalysis(CPA)portionoftheoverallNMP2ControlSystemsFailureAnalysisProgram,acomprehensive approachwasdeveloped andimplemented toaddressthegeneralpurposeoftheanalysesaswellasthespecificNRCNMP2FSARQuestion421.42concerns.
Theactivitylist,Table1.1,andfollowing descriptions highlight themethodology usedtoperformtheanalysis.
Itshouldbenotedthatthisstudyusedtheevent-consequence logicoftheNMP2FSARChapter15analysis, butitstartedthelogicchainfromaspecificsource(e.g.,asinglecommonsensorlinefailure)ratherthanasystemcondition (e.g.,feedwater runout).Byapproaching thestudyinthismanner,agreatdealofconfidence canbeplacedinthestudyconclusions.
Thesoundness ofthetotalplantdesignisdemonstrated byitsbeingtolerantoftheseeffects.12-25342

3.1SystemIdentification Thescopeofcontrolsystemstobeanalyzedwasestablished byfirstcompiling acompletelistoftheNineSilePointNuclearStationUnit2systemsandsubsystems.
Next,thelistwasreviewedtoconfinetheanalysistoonlythosesystemswhich,intheirnormal(automatic, ifavailable) controlmode,havethepotential toaffectreactorpressurevessel(RPV)pressure, waterlevel,orpowerlevelchanges.3.1.1AlltheHMP2plantinstrumentation andcontrolsystemswereidentified, listed,andagreeduponascompletebythetwoprincipal analyzing engineergroups,i.e.,GeneralElectricCompany(GE)andStoneandWebsterEngineering Corporation (SWEC)..3.1.2Systemandcomponent elimination criteria(seeTable1.4)were'derivedandagreeduponbytheprincipals todeletenon-electrical, non-opera-tional,ornon-control systemsorcomponents (including somepreviously analyzedsystemsandcomponents alreadyaddressed inFSARChapter15)fromthesystemsidentified in3.1.1above(seeTables1.2and1.3).Iftherewas.anyuncertainty astowhetherornotasystemmet,thecriteria, itwasretainedforfurtheranalysis.
Thosesystemsthatmetthecriteriaforelimination weresonotedinthecompletesystemlist,leavingtheremaining controlsystemstobeanalyzed.
3.2CommmonSensorLineorSensorIdentification TheCommonSensorFailuxeAnalysisportionoftheControlSystemsFailureAnalysesthenidentified strategic reactorprocesssensorlinesorsensorscommonlysharedbytwoormoreplantsystems,atleastonesystemofwhichwasanon-safety gradesystemidentified inSection3.1.2above.3.3Failure@peDetermination Basedonconservative assumptions, acompleteandinstantaneous sensorlinebreakorplugduringnormal,fullpowerreactoroperation wasdetexmined tobetheboundingfailuretypesforeachsensorlineanalyzed.

SINGLEFAIIUREINANACCIDENTMITIGATING SAFETYSYSTEM4.1Subsequent tocompleting theCommonSensorFailureAnalysisevaluations, eachpostulated failurewasreviewedtoconservatively selectaspecificsensorlinefailurewhich,incombination withanadditional singlecomponent failureinareactoraccidentmitigating safetysystem,wouldresultina"worstcase"failureeventnotpreviously identified.
