NineMilePointUn'AR7.4SYSTEMSREQUIREDFORSAFESHUTDOWN7.4.1DescriptionThissectiondiscussestheinstrumentationandcontrolsofthefollowingsystemswhichcanbeusedforsafeplantshutdown:1.Reactorcoreisolationcoolingsystem(RCIC).2.Standbyliquidcontrolsystem{SLCS).3.RHRshutdowncoolingmode(RSCM).4.Remoteshutdownsystem{RSS).Thesourcesthatsupplypowertothesafeshutdownsystemsoriginatefromonsiteac/dcsafety-relatedbuses.RefertoChapter8foracompletediscussionofthesafety-relatedpowersources.7.4.1.1ReactorCoreIsolationCoolingSystemSstemFunctionTheRCICsystemisdesignedtoassurethatsufficientreactorwaterinventoryismaintainedinthereactorvesselthusassuringcontinuityofcorecooling.ReactorvesselwaterismaintainedorsupplementedbyRCICsystemduringthefollowingconditions:1.Whenthereactorvesselisisolatedandmaintainedinthehotstandbycondition.Whenthereactorvesselisisolatedandaccompaniedbyalossofnormalcoolantflowfromthereactorfeedwatersystem.WhenacompleteplantshutdownunderconditionsoflossofnormalfeedwatersystemisstartedbeforethereactorisdepressurizedtoalevelwherethereactorshutdowncoolingmodeoftheRHRsystemcanbeplacedintooperation.Sstem0erationSchematicarrangementsofsystemmechanicalequipmentandinstrumentationandadescriptionofsystemdesignandoperationareprovidedinSectionS.4.6.TheinstrumentationspecificationsarelistedinTable7.4-1'.ThecontrollogicisshownonFigure7.4-1.7.4-1

~0 4kResonAsshownonFSARFigure9B.4-2,theapproachusedforNMP2issimilartothatdescribedabove.Thereactoriseithermanuallyorautomaticallyscramed.Thenoneoffourtrainsareusedtoprovidemakeupwateranddecayheatremoval.EitherHPCSorRCICisusedforhighpressuremakeup.IfablowdownweretooccureitherthroughtheADSorreliefvalves,makeupwouldbeprovidedusingthelowpressuresystems(LPCSorLPCI);Additionally,decayheatremovalisprovidedbytheRHRsystem.Intheeventofafireinthecontrolroomorrelayroomwhichforcesevacuationofthecontrolroom,sufficientequipmenttoenablehotandcoldshutdownisprovidedattheremoteshutdownpanels(FSARSection7.4)andthroughtheuseoflocalcontrol.Viabilityofthesecircuitsisassuredbytheuseoftransferswitcheswhicnelectricallyisolatethecontrolroomandtransfercontroltothelocalpanelsandtheremoteshutdownpanels.Redundantandisolatedfusesareprovided(intheemergencyswitchgearrooms)tomaintainthepowersourcetothesecircuits.12.Thedescriptionofthesystemsorportionsthereofusedtoprovidetheshutdowncapabilityandmodificationsrequiredtoachievealternateshutdowncapabilityifrequired.~ResenseAppendix98andSection7.4oftheFSARprovidedescriptionsoftheshutdownsystemsandmodificationsandalternateshutdowncapabilityfromtheremoteshutdownroom.
