All U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) medical-use licensees and NRC Master Materials licensees. All Radiation Control Program Directors and State Liaison Officers.
INTENT
The NRC is issuing this Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) to inform addressees of the availability of a new list server for automatic notification of medical-related generic communications, Federal Register Notices and Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS)/Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs (FSME) newsletters. No specific action or written response is required. NRC is providing this RIS to the Agreement States for their information and for distribution to their medical licensees as appropriate.
BACKGROUND
By means of generic communications and newsletters that are both mailed to medical-use licensees and posted to the NRC website, NRC endeavors to keep its medical stakeholders informed of policy decisions and technical issues that are of interest to the medical community.
In addition to the mechanisms already in use to communicate with stakeholders, NRC believes the establishment of a new list server will be an effective means to notify stakeholders, in a more timely manner, of the issuance of medical-related generic communications, Federal Register Notices and NMSS/FSME newsletters.
SUMMARY OF ISSUE
NRC is aware that some stakeholders may benefit from more timely notification of the issuance of medical-related generic communications, newsletters, and Federal Register Notices. To serve the needs of these stakeholders, NRC has established a new list server that will send automatic e-mail notifications of medical-related generic communications, Federal Register Notices and NMSS/FSME newsletters as they are published. Individuals may subscribe/
unsubscribe to the new list server by sending an e-mail to medical-gc@nrc.gov with Subscribe or Unsubscribe in the subject line. For guidance pertaining to the use of the list server, NRC
staff asks that users be mindful of the points listed below.
Do not reply to e-mails sent from the list server e-mail address medical-gc@nrc.gov. It is intended for subscribing and unsubscribing to the list server only. It is not designed to receive replies to the automatic e-mail notifications.
Questions pertaining to the list server itself should be sent to Med-listserverquestions@nrc.gov.
Questions pertaining to the content of generic communications, Federal Register Notices and NMSS/FSME newsletter articles should be directed to the technical contact(s) identified in the applicable document.
BACKFIT DISCUSSION
This RIS requires no action or written response. Any action on the part of addressees in accordance with the guidance contained in this RIS is strictly voluntary and, therefore, is not a backfit under any regulatory requirement in Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations.
Consequently, the staff did not perform a backfit analysis.
