SUBJECT: ANNUAL MEETING TO DISCUSS RECENT DEVELOPMENTS REGARDING OPERATORTRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXAMINATIONS (Generic Letter No. 84-17)GENTLEMEN:On February 11, 1983, a meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland to discussNRC requalification examinations, NRC activities assessing the licenseexamination process and content, operator licensing administrative proceduresincluding standardized application forms and Operator Licensing TrackingSystem (OLTS), and decentralization of the operator licensing functions.The meeting was well received by the participants. The valuable feedbackprovided to the NRC staff was considered in the development of the "OperatorLicensing Examiner Standards," NUREG-1021.Since the last meeting, there have been several important developments inthe area of operator licensing, training, qualifications, and examinationpolicies, including several proposed regulatory changes. The NRC staff willhold a similar meeting at the Holiday Inn CROWNE PLAZA, on August 1 and 2,1984, at 9:00 a.m. For your convenience, a block of rooms will be held bythe CROWNE PLAZA until July 18, 1984, at a special rate of $55 per night.
