Malare, mist, Materials Branch, ADHA NORTMERM 8TATES POWII CONFANY - DOGET NO.30-163 Enclosed is a copy of an August 31, 1973 request f rom Northern States Power Company (WSP) for amendment to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-22 changing the quantities and types of byproduct materials for use in connection with operation of the Hooticello Nuclear Generating Plant.
NSP has requested that we do not include in the license 12 sources of casium 137 (total of 90 microcuries used for instrument testing and calibration) and 40 sources of stronium 90 (total 48 microcuries used in radiation monitoring devices) inasmuch as these byproduct materials are within the exempt quantity limits. Please advise if the above types and quant.ities of byproduct materials for use in the manner proposed are within the escapt quantity limitations of Part 30. These materials were previously licensed under byproduct material license 22-08799-03, as amended, prior to NSF receiving its operating license for the facility.
