Dear Mr. Muller:

Carolina Power & Light Company hereby provides a clarification to the proposed j . schedule for implementing the requirements of the Anticipated Transients Without l Scram (ATWS) rule,10 CFR 50.62. Information required by this rule was submitted to - you by letter dated October 10,1985. The ATWS mitigating systems modifications at the Brunswick facilities will be ~ j implemented by completion of Refueling Outage 5 for Unit I and Refueling Outage 7 for i Unit 2. These outages are scheduled to begin in January 1987 and January 1988, respectively. Acceptance testing and training with regard.to these~ modifications will be completed within three months following the respective unit outage. Note that this schedule may put the final implementation beyond the recommended implementation ] date provided in 10 CFR 50.62(d). l This schedule is reflected in Schedule A of the Brunswick Integrated Schedule License Amendment submitted to the NRC by NLS-86-052 dated March 18, 1986.
