Monticello A-46 Revision 0 Stevenson & Associates Seismic Analysis of Standby Diesel By MSLl 10/2/95 a structural-mechanical Generator Day Tank T-45A and B Chk. JOS 10/3/95 < consulting engineering firm
- 1. Objectivo The objective of this calculation is to assess the structuralintegrity of Standby Diesel Generator Day Tank T-45A and B at Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant during the event of Safety Shutdown Earthquake (SSE).
- 2. Analysis input Tank T-45A & B The configuration and support details of the tank are from the A-46 walkdown notes recorded in Screening Evaluation Work Sheet (SEWS)[5] and Monticello drawings [1-4). The configuration and the weight of the tank are from Ref.1. Refs. 2 to 4 show the details of anchor bolts and concrete piers. The welding information about the saddles are recorded in T-45A SEWS [5).
Base Motion Per the GIP [7), the base motion used in seismic demand calculation is equal to the Monticello conservative SSE Floor Response Spectra (FRS)[6] at Reactor Building Elevation 935'.
- 3. Assumptions Per the GlP [7] or EPRI NP 5228-SL [B), the support saddle connection is assumed to be fixed at the tank and pinned at the base. A ductility at the base will be checked in the section of anchor bolt capacity to ensure that the assumption of pinned at the base is valid.
4 Analysis Per the GIP [7), it is not necessary to evaluate the seismic adequacy of the shell of horizontal tank or the shell-to-support welds since these items are norm egged enough to withstand the loads which can be transmitted to them from the anchor bolts and support saddles. Anchor holes at the base plate of tank saddle are not slotted. It is not a concem because the content of the tank is not subjected to temperature variation as heat exchangers. Therefore, both saddles are active in all directions during the earthquake. The adequacy of anchor bolts, saddles, and the concrete piers will be examined in the following subsections. 1

See reference 1 for configuration Saddles are welded to tank with 1/4" fillet both sides, intermittent,2" long at 14" center. Welding between the base plate and the vertical center plate is 3/16" fillet,2.5" long, and total 7 stitches at each side. Full width 3/16" welds is between the base plate and the stiffners and inside only. Seismic analysis of tan., anchorage shows adequate for the SSE event (see project calculation C-016). LIS-1528 is attached on top to the tank, not covered by rule-of-the box (separate SEWS). There is a block wall at one end of the room. The wall was evaluated as ' safety related" undrer IE80.11 (wall D105), therefore collapse concern is dismissed [2].

The 3/4" pipe size is less than the 1" size specified in BS caveats. However, the operator is small, estimated to be less than 25 pounds, and the offset is 24 inches. The moment produced on the pipe would be about 33% of that allowed for a substanital piston operated or a motor operated valve on a 1" line. The 3/4" line is about 53% P.s strong as an equivalent 1" line (per section modull for standard pipe). Therefore 3/4" line is judged I acceptab8e.
