Dear Mr. Moseley:
In our letter of June 25, 1974, we submitted abnormal occurrence report '? '4 Y '-
number A0-S1-74-07. Subsequent evaluation of that report pursuant to the Nd9.[.
implementation of the stated corrective action to prevent recurrence,Section IV, paragraph 2, indicates that there will be no benefit gained by making the [jjylc.p *f's? }
modification. .
-l The thermal overload referred to in paragraph 2, is positively identified #m],,g. a- ...
in the control room. The present circuitry is set up such that the control i. ' . !
room does have an indication as to the operational status of the pump. The nVAc $ .;j circuit contains red and green operating lights which indicate " running" and WQ.: i,.
"not running", respectively. When the overloads open and no other malfunction g.i exists, the motor will stop and the red light will extinguish and the green Ok -f '
light will illuminate; if the pump switch is in " slow", " fast" or " auto", (j p,.l trouble is indicated. - Am?
The corrective action of paragraph 2 would result in the green light connected in series with the overloads. which when extinguished would have

,vikoins ELECTRIC AND POWER tOMPA As can be seen from the above, wiring the green light in series with the overload does not serve the purpose of immediately indicating when the motor overloads open. Also, the function of the green light is lost under overload opening conditions. The green light indication is important because '
it not only indicates that the motor has stopped, but also that
- 1. 480 volt power is availabic /
- 2. Control power transformer is functioning
- 3. 52X relay is functioning, and
- 4. Contactor auxiliary contacts are functioning.
The only advantage of connecting the green light in series with the overload is that when the green light is illuminated the overloads are known to be closed. Therefore, based on the above facts it is concluded that the boric acid transfer pump indicating light circuitry should not be altered as previously recommended.
Very truly yours,
