Duke Energy Corporation Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Request for Inservice Testing (IST) Program Relief 02-001

Letter from Gary R. Peterson to NRC, same subject, dated January 9, 2002 In the reference letter, Duke Energy Corporation submitted Request for Relief 02-001. The reference letter requested approval to: 1) partially implement the 1995 ASME Code Edition (ISTC, OMa-1996) for selected IST program check valves in order to allow the adoption of Condition Monitoring for these valves, and 2) continue testing the Auxiliary Feedwater System and Containment Spray System pumps at 40% and 25% flow, respectively, rather than the 80% of design flow required by the 1995 ASME Code Edition.
The NRC approved Item 1 above via letter dated April 10, 2002. Regarding Item 2 above, Duke Energy Corporation recently discussed this issue with your staff in a telephone conference. As a result of this discussion, Duke Energy Corporation has elected to withdraw Item 2 of the reference letter and will're-evaluate this issue internally. This closes out the subject Request for Relief.
