Dear Sir:

Subject:

Salem Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-272 and 50-311 License Change Request S04-03 Request for Change to Technical Specifications Extension of the Inspection Interval for Reactor Coolant Pump Flywheels Using the Consolidated Line Item Improvement Process PSEG Nuclear LLC submitted the proposed change to the Salem Technical Specifications by letter to the NRC dated September 27, 2004. The proposed amendment would revise the required frequency for reactor coolant pump (RCP) motor flywheel inspection from the current 10-year inspection interval, to an interval not to exceed 20 years. This change is consistent with Industry/Technical Specification Task Force (TSTF) Standard Technical Specification Change Traveler, TSTF-421, "Revision to RCP Flywheel Inspection Program (WCAP-15666)". The availability of this technical specification improvement was announced in the Federal Register on October 22,2003 as part of the consolidated line item improvement process (CLIIP).

The BNE has no comments on the proposed change. If you need to discuss the subject further, please contact Elliot Rosenfeld at (609) 984-7548.

Sincerely,
