' Exelon Generation.RA-15-022 10CFR 2.201March 13, 2015U.S. Nuclear Regulatory CommissionATTN: Document Control DeskWashington, DC 20555-0001Subject: Response to Apparent Violation inInspection Report No. 05000219/2014005; EA-14-186Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating StationRenewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-16NRC Docket No. 50-219Reference: NRC Letter to Exelon, Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station -NRCIntegrated Inspection Report 05000219/2014005 and Preliminary WhiteFinding, dated February 11, 2015.The referenced letter identified an apparent violation that is being considered for escalatedenforcement action related to an NRC inspection performed at the Oyster Creek NuclearGenerating Station involving the fan shaft failure of the Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG)No. 2. The letter allows for a response to the apparent violation in writing prior to the NRCmaking its enforcement decision. Exelon Generation Company, LLC accepts the apparentviolation of low to moderate safety significance (White) and agrees that the failure is notindicative of current station performance since the deficiency occurred in 2005. Lastly, subsequent failure analysis concluded that an additional apparent cause involving anundetected manufacturing defect that was not identifiable by station personnel may havecontributed to the shaft failure.Should you have any questions concerning this letter, please contact Michael McKenna,Regulatory Assurance Manager, at (609) 971-4389.
