Recommendation 1: Assess Significance Determination Process (SDP) workflow, and establish, communicate, and document clear and consistent expectations for staff and managers to complete their roles in the SDP.
As noted by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in Status of Recommendations: Audit of NRCs Significance Determination Process for Reactor Safety (OIG-16-A-21) (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML19058A241),
Recommendation 1 is closed.
Recommendation 2: Clarify Inspection Manual Chapter (IMC) 0612 Appendix B issue screening questions, so that they are readily understood and easily applied.
Update The staff has developed a draft revision to IMC 0612 that will address this recommendation.
As noted in the staffs previous status update, the staff initially planned to finalize the revision by mid-2019. However, the expected completion date has been delayed due to resources being redirected to support the Reactor Oversight Process enhancement project. The staff now plans to send the draft document out for formal review and comment by August 1, 2019, and finalize the revision by January 1, 2020.
Target date for completion: January 1, 2020
