11/21/2019 Technical Discussion of LAR 19-017, Removal of the Preoperational Passive Residual Heat Removal Heat Exchanger Natural Circulation Test.

Below lists supplemental information needed to support the staffs review.

1. Additional information to be included in the LAR submittal:

• Integrated system frictional and minor head loss acceptance criteria.

• Discussion regarding how the forced flow test can demonstrate the as-built friction loses with margin to design values and is appropriate given flow regime differences between prior to establishment of natural circulation and fully developed flow.

• Information related to any analytical reconciliation that will be performed of the as-built forced flow test data of parameters related to initiation of natural circulation against the validated LOFTRAN model.

2. Available for Audit:

• China test information for parameters related to the initiation of natural circulation.

• Validation or confirmation of LOFTRAN performance and capability to predict the initiation of natural circulation based on the as-built tests performed at China plants including a comparison of as-built frictional losses to the design values.

• Sensitivity studies relative to frictional margin.
