ALERT DECLARATION AT SUSQUEHANNA At approximately 9:27 pm EST on March 1, 2006, the licensee declared an ALERT as the result of theevacuation of a security building due to the activation of the fire protection system. The firesuppressant Halon gas was automatically discharged into the building. The ALERT was exited at 4:33am EST on March 2, 2006, after the licensee cleared the area of the fire suppression gas, deactivated the Halon system, reset the fire panel alarms, and established fire watch compensatory measures.Security at the plant was at no point reduced or compromised. Both Units continued to operatethroughout the event and were not affected by the event.The licensee activated its emergency response centers as required, and the Region I NRC staffed itsIncident Response Center in response to the event.The NRC senior resident inspector responded to the site, and monitored the licensee's response to theevent. The NRC resident inspectors will continue to follow the licensee's root cause evaulation tounderstand the cause of the fire protection activation, and licensee equipment restoration activities.State and local officials were notified of the event. The licensee and the Commonwealth ofPennsylvania issued press releases.
