ThomasS.KressasMember-at-Large.TheirtermsrununtilDecember31,2001.TheACRS,establishedin1957,advisestheCommissiononthesafetyaspectsofnuclearfacilitiesandtheadequacyofsafetystandards.Dr.ApostolakisstudiedelectricalengineeringattheTechnicalUniversityinAthens,Greece.HereceivedhisPh.D.inengineeringscienceandappliedmathematicsfromtheCaliforniaInstituteof Technology,andiscurrentlyaprofessorofnuclearengineeringattheMassachusettsInstituteof Technology.PriortojoiningMITin1995,hespent21yearsonthefacultyattheUniversityofCaliforniaatLosAngeles.Inaddition,hehasorganizedthefirsttwoInternationalConferencesonProbabilistic SafetyAssessmentandManagementandpublishednumerouspapersonprobabilisticriskassessment methodologyandriskmanagement.Dr.BonacareceivedhisDoctorateinphysicsfromtheUniversityofFlorence,Italy,in1964.Hehasmorethan30yearsexperienceinthenuclearindustry,includingworkingwithnuclearsteam supplysystemdesignersengagedinreactoranalysisandplantdesignforU.S.andGermanprojects.He laterwasinvolvedinthemanagementofnuclearplantsupportintheareasofnuclearfuel,safety analysis,probabilisticriskassessment,radiologicalengineering,emergencyplanning,engineering programs,nuclearwaste,andnuclearsafetyandoversight.AfterreceivinghisB.S.andM.S.degrees,bothinmechanicalengineering,fromtheUniversityofTennesseein1956and1965,Dr.KressearnedhisPh.D.inEngineeringSciencein1971.He workedattheOakRidgeNationalLaboratoryinTennesseefrom1959untilhisretirementin1994,and hasbeeninvolvedinawiderangeofissuesincludingenergy,space,military,andenvironmental researchanddevelopment.
